Home » Phase One – Tallinding Project – Serrekunda, The Gambia
The land is tribal land (equivalent to a village green) and the village elders had requested help to provide education for the village children.
We got together with friends and a donation from the Dursley lions Club to provide the money for materials and the local village people provided the labour to have the four Nursery classes open in 2004. Building is with site made blocks and corrugated roofing as per the Gambian standard so that local workman could be used to build and maintain the classrooms. There were places provided for 160 children but twice that many turned up!
There was a big party and celebration for the opening with local dignitaries, parents and visitors entertained by local dancers and musicians.
